Swindon Storm Youth and Juniors

Youth (Under 17)

Swindon Storm have been running a Youth team, playing in the National League, for several years now.
Q. What are the age limits for playing Under 17 American Football?.
A. You can play Under 17 Contact American Football as soon as you turn 13. 
The age limits have recently been adjusted to favour younger / newer players in the Under 17 age group and encourage older/ more experienced players to play for the Under 19 age group.

 

Q. Where do we train?
A. We train Ridgeway Leisure Centre, Wroughton, Swindon, SN4 9AD - 10am to 13:00 on Saturdays. Game days are also on Saturdays

 

Q. How much does it cost?
A. There is a pay-as-you-go fee of £5.00 per training session, and £10 game day fee to cover costs. We do require members who wish to play for the team to register with the governing body BAFA. The BAFA membership fee of £20 per year provides insurance for training and competition.

 

Q. Do I need any special equipment?
A. There is no pressure to buy your own kit. The team is able to supply helmets, pads and training tops, as well as game day kit.
All you need are football / rugby boots and a gum shield.
If you do however wish to buy your own equipment the coaching staff are always happy to advise.

 

Q. What games are played against other teams? 
A. Swindon storm is active in the National League, playing teams from the Southern half of the country. The U17 team plays a 5 v 5 version of the game. This is a competitive league which is both challenging and rewarding.

Junior (Under 19)

Swindon Storm have combined with Berkshire renegades to jointly form the Thames Valley Tigers Under 19 team

 

Q. What are the age limits for playing U19 American Football in Swindon?

A. The Under 19 Contact team is aged 16 to 19 - As soon as you turn 16 you can play. To play in the 2019 season you must have been born after 31st August 1999

Q. Where do we train?

A. Currently training is split between Reading, and Swindon. Training is usually 1:00pm to 3:30pm on a Sunday

 

 Q. How much does it cost?

A. Subs for 2018 will be in the order of £150 for the season, to include all training and game day fees. There will be an option to pay monthly. We do require members who wish to play for the team to register with the governing body BAFA. This will cost £25 per year, and includes the recommended insurance for training and competition.

A. The team will be active in the national league, playing teams from the southern half of the country. The U19 team plays a 9 v 9 version of the game on the full size field which is a great stepping stone towards the full 11 v 11 game that is played by the Swindon storm senior team and throughout British universities.
